Campaign of the Month: November 2012
THE EMERALD CITY
IDEA: THE SEATTLE CENTER IS WHERE MODERN INDUSTRY IS CELEBRATED AND HAS A MAGIC ALL ITS OWN.
The Seattle Center is a 74 Acre campus that was once home to the Century 21 Exposition in 1962. As planned, the exposition left behind a fairground and numerous public buildings and public works; some credit it with revitalizing Seattle’s economic and cultural life. The fair was originally conceived in 1955 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, but it soon became clear that that date was too ambitious. With the Space Race underway and Boeing having “put Seattle on the map” as “an aerospace city”, a major theme of the fair was to show that “the United States was not really ‘behind’ the Soviet Union in the realms of science and space.” As a result, the themes of space, science, and the future completely trumped the earlier conception of a “Festival of the [American] West.” The Center is a major Tourist Attraction and made of a number of attractions including the Pacific Science Center, The Monorail, Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Hall of Fame and the Space Needle.
Being relatively untouched by the recent Earthquake, the Seattle Center’s tourism has tapered off somewhat but is more or less Business as Usual.
NEW PATHS TO FORTUNE AND POWER
One of the less obvious results of the Seattle Center is the flow of energy throughout Seattle being drastically altered into a confluence. Since the world’s fair was a celebration of the new Religion of Science and in particular Innovation, the area has some unusual Magically properties. Unusual in the high concentration of energy of Intellect(the stuff Bobs are made of) that radiates out through Ley Lines to other parts of the City. One of the other less know facts is that the Seattle Center was one of the locations used to sign the Unseelie Accords.
IT’S A MONORAIL…
LOCATION: THE MONORAIL
Built in 1962 for the Fair, the Seattle Monorail services 7,000 Passengers a day. And it hardly ever breaks down. When it does….it gets bad.
The Monorail is home to Gremlins originally from Boeing. They tend to be the cause of a lot of cellphone thefts on the Monorail.
Because of the Gremlins on the Monorail, what little damage it sustained from the recent Earthquake didn’t last.
TODAY’S FORCAST: 70% CHANCE OF SCIENCE
LOCATION: PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER
It’s the Pacific Science Center, full of all manner of crazy stuff relating to Science and all of it radiating a Magic of its own. Rumor has it that Supernatural Creatures have problems coming into the Science Center being a place that is dedicated to the newest Religion of Science.
Most of the exhibits are geared towards families, but the Pacific Science Center is also host to a rotation of big name Exhibits ranging from Ancient Egypt to Popular Culture.
ECHO OF THE ACCORDS
LOCATION: THE EXPERIENCE MUSIC PROJECT/SCIENCE FICTION HALL OF FAME
The Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Hall of Fame are rather new structures celebrating Music and Sci-Fi respectively. It was also the Place were the Unseelie Accords were signed and the Metaphysical imprint of those powers in one place still lingers. It’s probably why Paul Allen decided to build the place there. That and it’s right next to the Space Needle and has the Monorail passing through it.
A KEY TO….SOMETHING….
LOCATION: THE SPACE NEEDLE
The Space Needle is tall, spins around, has a restaurant and observation deck and defines the Seattle Sky Line. If you see this building in a movie, you know exactly where you are. The place is also on top of several Ley Lines. At least one is Line of Intellect Power that goes conveniently through Redmond. Mortals know that the Needle was made for aesthetics, but Non-Mortals have all kinds of theories. It is a significant structure. No one’s sure why yet….
