Campaign of the Month: November 2012
THE EMERALD CITY
THE DARK GOD'S PET REVENANT
FULL NAME: RYAN LOUIS DELMONT
TEMPLATE: EMISSARY OF POWER
HIGH CONCEPT: THE BLACK GOD, CHERNOBOG’S, PET REVENANT
TROUBLE: ENTHRALLED BY A MAD PRIEST OF CHERNOBOG
ASPECT: WRONG PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME
INVOKE: When needing to be wherever the action is, whenever being somewhere particular would be disadvantageous (not in the path of the train crash, moved behind a tree just before the ambush).
COMPEL: Ryan always seems to turn up where violence and death is happening, either before or during, with no way to prevent it. Police tend to notice him in surveillance pictures or video. Unpleasant events may follow him as he tries to get away.
GREAT POWER, GREATER OBLIGATION
INVOKE: Ryan was given great power when his soul was switched with that of his assassin, power which he doesn’t fully understand. He may be able to pull from untapped reserves in an emergency to give his abilities a little extra .
COMPEL: The power was not given for Ryan’s benefit. He is well aware that the dark, mysterious god or entity that crafted their deal will require things from him, and that those things may not be particularly pleasant. But the request is not a request, regardless of how politely it may be worded.
NOT AS DUMB AS I LOOK
INVOKE: When intelligence or understanding is needed, or when it is important that he be underestimated intellectually.
COMPEL: Ryan now looks and sounds like a rather thick thug. It’s difficult for him to be taken seriously when he has something important to convey. Intelligent people tend to treat him like a moron or a child.
DON’T KNOW MY OWN STRENGTH
INVOKE: To add a bit of extra power to anything requiring brute strength
COMPEL: Ryan is still not quite used to having what is effectively super strength. If attempting something requiring delicacy or finesse, including knocking somebody down or out without killing them, he may misjudge the amount of force to use.
AN OVERDEVELOPED SENSE OF VENGEANCE
INVOKE: Ryan is highly motivated by his need for retribution. If he or someone he cares about is wronged, he can call on this motivation to aid him.
COMPEL: His need for revenge seems to have increased since his body switch, and he’s not sure if it’s the deity’s doing or some weird function of being in a new body. At times he can pursue payback to his own or others’ detriment.

Ryan Delmont grew up a gawky and ungainly child in a below-average neighborhood. A gifted child, he shied away from most physical pursuits and lost himself in books and technology. He excelled in high school and won a full scholarship to the University of Washington at age 16, where he continued studying computer science and preparing for a career in the field. For some reason he was never able to understand however, he had a weird tendency to be in the area when bad things were happening. By the time he completed his bachelor’s degree at age 19, he had been a bystander witness to no less than fifteen violent deaths. Some considered him cursed, others found him fascinating. He preferred to pretend the things around him were complete coincidence.
When a grad student in UW’s Computer Science department, Ryan started doing some side work for a local tech company on their database. In the course of his work, he found a file with some high-level encryption which seemed out of place for the mid-level manager who owned it. Curious, he copied the file onto a thumb drive so he could attempt decription later. Ryan took the info back to his apartment and messed with it until he finally realized that it was records of illegal dealings with a Russian mobster named Gennadiy Kutuzov, who apparently was in charge of a good portion of the Russian Mafia’s projects in the Seattle area. He had a party to go to that night, but after that he would take the evidence to the police. Despite the storm going on outside he attended the party with his girlfriend, but started feeling very odd and decided to leave.
He was ambushed in a small park, from behind. Before he knew he wasn’t alone he had been stabbed in the back three times and was face down in the mud. Then everything went black and he found himself on a cold and dark plain, talking to a void with a vaguely-humanoid shape. The shape, which Ryan inexplicably thought of as female, gave him a choice – die here in the rain and mud, never knowing why, or trade places with his assassin and gain a new life as the emissary of a higher power. Ryan chose to become her representative on earth, to be given great power for use on her behalf.
After a very uncomfortable few moments of struggle, he found himself looking down on his now-dead body in the mud behind some bushes. Disoriented and filled with very odd sensations, he staggered off into the storm with no real idea of what to do next.
GUEST STARRING: LEIF WOTENSEN
When a murder victim’s new body turns out to be a hired killer with unpleasant obligations, his former employers send others to do the jobs he skipped out on. With the entire Russian Mafia out for blood in the aftermath of the worst natural disaster Seattle has ever seen, can Ryan team up with the son of a god to save the targets of a series of killers? Can either of them survive the wrath of the criminal lieutenant who ordered the purges, when he realizes his ex-employee is out to take him down?
STARRING: ROY MULLENIX, VIRGIL COLE
The Russian Mafia has a long memory and a longer reach. And they now know their ex-assassin is gunning for them. In order to wade through a maze of falsehood and a small army of armed thugs, Ryan will need the aid of a wizard and an immortal bounty hunter. Will even an attack from three separate angles be enough to track down and eliminate an elusive vory of the Russian Mafia, whose rise to power was bankrolled by powers with dark designs on humanity’s future? And will any of them survive the aftermath?
GUEST STAR REDUX
STARRING: ZEBADIAH EINAR
Ryan’s girlfriend Karolynn is dead, and the wizard Zebediah Einar is the one who killed her. With Ryan’s newfound strength as a revenant, the defenses of an aging warden seem less than daunting. Can a computer nerd with the strength of a Hulk and an overdeveloped sense of vengeance be convinced of the truth, before he manages to destroy a potential ally and any chance of peace with his new group of friends?
